The tannic acid pigment contained in the dye extracted from the wheel plum (a tree of the Rosaceae family that is caught in Amami Oshima) and iron (iron oxide) in the mud fields (mud of Amami Oshima, which is rich in iron) are chemically bonded, and by repeated dyeing of more than 80 times, the product becomes a deep, glossy, dark black color.
Each dyeing process is done by hand, and this work clothes is also a masterpiece that is carefully dyed by craftsmen one by one.

Another characteristic of mud-dyed fabric is that it uses only natural materials without using chemical dyes, making it environmentally friendly, and the tannins used as dyes are said to have natural antibacterial and insect repellent effects, making it a great effect for children and their families.
