Born in Oita Prefecture in 1959. Graduated from Kyoto College of Art (now Kyoto University of Art and Design), Department of Visual Design.
Won the Children's Literature Newcomer Award for ``Maigo no Donguri'' (Doshinsha).
Other major picture books include ``Grandpa's Sakurayama'', ``Kiruru in the Fudebako'' (both published by Hakusensha), ``Koinu no Kon'', and ``What is it like now?'' ” (Gakken), “Kuma to Kuma” (Doshinsha), “Sei-chan”, “My Shoes” (Hisakata Child), “Koron-chan” (Alicekan), “Tanabatamasuri” (Kodansha), etc.
His illustration work includes ``Kasajizo'' (written by Yukiko Hiromatsu, published by Iwasaki Shoten), ``The Frog Old Man and the Amenbo Flower'' (written by Sakura Miyama, published by Kyoiku Gageki), and ``Haruneko'' (written by Yuko Kanno, published by Kodansha).
